2010 Moon Cycle 12: new Moon in Sagittarius, full Moon in Gemini

Here are the Moon charts for December:

During this cycle we find the Sun and new Moon at 13° Sagittarius and the full Moon balanced against the Sun on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis at 29°. This is the twelfth calendar cycle of the year and the ninth in the astrological year.

It occurred to me that I often compare natal to transiting planets when talking about the U.S chart and the current Moon event. Here is an excellent article about transits by the folks at Cafe Astrology. Of importance is the following statement:

Transits act to stimulate what is already there! In other words, they highlight and trigger parts of our own psychological make-up.

Or in this case, the basic elements of the United States of America.

The new Moon

All the planets, lights, asteroids and dwarf planets (Pluto, Ceres) are contained in a hemisphere ranging from Libra through Pisces. Only Juno stands outside -- in Virgo. This zodiacal hemisphere is associated with others, social issues, and matters coming to an end, whereas the hemisphere from Aries through Virgo is associated with self, personal issues, and the building-up of matters.

The new Moon itself stands with 4 other bodies -- Vesta, Sun, Pallas Athena, and Mars -- in Sagittarius. This can be called a stellium. The ruler of Sagittarius Jupiter is conjunct Uranus in Pisces. Uranus is stationary direct.

Pat at Real Astrologers has this to say about Jupiter, Uranus and the new Moon:

Jupiter, as planetary ruler of Sagittarius, rules this New Moon. Jupiter just went direct on November 18 and is picking up some speed. We?re back in growth and expansion mode, following a period of dormancy and contraction.

Uranus, meanwhile, is stationed at a dead stop, ready to return direct a little over eight hours after the New Moon. This is a very powerful moment in time, and the breakthroughs won?t be far behind. Watch that fertile ground for signs of growth popping out.

Please be sure to read all of Pat's article; it's very good.

The U.S.

This new Moon (Sagittarius, 2nd house) is in opposition to the U.S.'s natal Uranus (Gemini, 8th house cusp). Uranus in the 8th speaks of innovation, progressive thought and a can-do spirit in the areas of taxes, credit, the national debt, and insurance. The Moon in opposition places the people and the national mood against the current policies. Yet tax policies that favor the rich over the other 99% of Americans seem likely to pass in Congress.

This is what Ben Tanosborn says about the Wealth Distribution in America in an article at MWC News:

Once upon a time, America was considered the land of opportunity; the place where freedom and a good life could be reasonably bridged from possibility to probability. It did not matter that America?s opportunity had little to do with the magic of its name or other mythical hocus pocus ? such as the exceptionalism of its people ? and everything to do with the size of its economic marketplace. In the world of economics, the United States of America had a vigorous, large market with an enormous advantage over other markets in the world; an advantage that little by little was lost, as other large economic markets emerged; the advantage totally disappearing as holders of capital around the world converted to the religion which maximized wealth-accumulation: globalization....

The reality, however, is quite different. It isn?t the Knights of Wealth, that 1 percent that owns 35 percent of the net worth and 43 percent of the financial wealth, that we need to worry about, but the next 19 percent as well? the Squires who hold 50 percent of the net worth and 50 percent of the financial wealth! [Data provided by economist Edward N. Wolff at New York University as of 2007.]

The soon-becoming slave population, 80 percent of Americans, barely had 7 percent of the financial wealth and 15 percent of the net worth, much of it in overvalued real estate, in 2007. Those paltry percentages are likely to be even lower for 2010.

And what?s even worse, the middle and lower classes are not outnumbering the elite 99 to 1, but outnumbering the elite and sub-elite by just 4 to 1. But that minority of 20 percent holds all the positions of power? not most but all. In such a socio-economic environment, it?s laughable for us to say that our democracy works...

Uranus, the reformer and revolutionary, is currently muted in I'm-just-too-tired-to-do-anything-about-it Pisces, but when it moves into Aries the story may change considerably.

The full Moon

The Moon is in the final degree of Gemini. When it moves into Capricorn it will be in close opposition to P. Athena and Pluto. At the time of the full Moon, there will be a total lunar eclipse, visible mostly in North and South America. Mercury is retrograde in Sagittarius.

As has been the case lately, there are many aspects in the full moon chart, compared to few at the new Moon. There is a stellium in Capricorn with Ceres, Mars, Pluto, North Node, and Pallas Athena.

Most notable of the aspects is a grand square with Sun/Moon at Sagittarius/Gemini square Uranus-Jupiter/Juno at Pisces/Virgo. This square accentuates the mutable mode, placing emphasis on problems with communication. With Uranus newly direct, we may be surprised by how tricky simple tasks can be. It's just momentary.

The Moon moving into opposition to P.Athena and Pluto may reveal to the public some obsessive planning by those in power.

The U.S.

Here the Moon is stationed in the 8th house and again refers to the issues brought up at the new Moon -- wealth, other's resources, and taxes. I should note that the U.S.'s natal Moon is in Aquarius, thus ruled by Uranus.

The natural ruler of the 8th is Pluto, the natal ruler is Mercury. Of the two Pluto is the more active agent, being direct and aspected by the Moon. Pluto is in the 3rd house and in Capricorn. Again communication is highlighted; but, because the sign is Capricorn, it's likely that the communication is controlled and to the advantage of those in power. In other words, spin.
