2009 Moon Cycle 8: new Moon in Leo, full Moon in Pisces

Here are the Moon charts for August/Sept:

This is the eighth Moon cycle of year 2009.

At this time we find the Sun and new Moon at 27° Leo and the full Moon balanced against the Sun on the Virgo/Pisces axis at about 12° Pisces.

Follow up:

The new Moon

At this new Moon, Sun and Moon occupy Leo, which is ruled by the Sun.

Leo is a fixed fire sign -- a happy place for the Sun, not so happy for the Moon. The Moon in Leo indicates proud people who often seek the spotlight. Many actors are Leos. Given the need to be admired and appreciated and to dramatize, some may present us with fireworks -- or thunderstorms -- at this time. But the Sun is right behind the clouds.

Neptune, the ruler of Pisces, is still transiting Aquarius along with Jupiter and Chiron; and all are in opposition to the Sun-Moon combo. This should help in identifying some of the matters that these three represent, bringing them into sharper focus. Since all are retrograde, the opposition should provide information and maybe some good hindsight, but no dire effects.

Cafe Astrology has an interesting article about this conjunction and how it might affect your love life. Another astrologer thinks that this conjunction will bring a new expression of human consciousness into effect. Many other astrologers have written about this conjunction, as well. Google "Neptune-Jupiter-Chiron" to find some of the articles.

The U.S.

At this new Moon the Sun-Moon dyad is posited in the U.S.'s 10th house. In mundane astrology, the 10th house indicates the Chief Exexcutive; the ruling political party; eminent and famous persons; and those who are responsible for the nation's "honor, reputation, and standing among the nations of the world" (Encyclopedia of Astrology, Nicholas Davore).

Opposing the Sun-Moon and in the 4th house (conjunct the U.S.'s natal Moon) are Neptune-Jupiter-Chiron. Davore describes the reciprocal action between the 4th and 10th houses, activated by the opposition, thus:

The Fourth House produces effects involving the environment, which are subject to the control of the native, in that he can alter his environment or upset his home conditions and that of all those who are intimately related to him, to his heart's content. Only through this House can he build his reputation and the foundations of this professional career. In contrast, forces operative through his Tenth House to affect his fortunes in his profession or career, he cannot directly control; since his ultimate fate is largely dependent upon the attitude of others toward him.

In the quote above, substitute citizen for native.

The full Moon

At this full Moon, the Sun-Moon dyad occupies and activates a Virgo/Pisces axis.

The Virgo/Pisces nodal axis is the axis of matter and spirit. The purpose of this axis is to learn how to balance between discrimination and assimilation, and between isolation and integration. Virgo and Pisces are both mutable signs and are concerned with healing and completion, and ultimately with perfection and improvement. Virgo operates on the physical plane, while Pisces operates on the spiritual plane. While we are incarnated on Earth, we must continually work to find the point of balance between our physical world and our true spiritual identity. We must discover how to bring spirit into matter and matter into spirit.

Kevin Burk, The Complete Node Book: Understanding Your Life's Purpose

The Moon in Pisces is in its own watery element. Pisces is mutable water. While the Cancer Crab lives in water, and fixed Scorpio contains water -- changeable, dreamy Pisces is water, and universal water at that. Natives of Pisces

...are extremely responsive to the thoughts and feelings of others. They unconsciously absorb the ideas and mental outlook of those around them.

Frances Sakoian & Louis S. Acker, The Astologer's Handbook

The Moon's being in Pisces suggests another ending, because Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac. When emphasized, as it is at this full Moon, the sign Pisces indicates "a need to give relevant meaning to one's intensely personal visions and experiences, rather than giving way to irrationalism or fanatacism." (Michael R. Meyer, A Handbook for the Humanistic Astologer). Perhaps this is what we're seeing when we see the rants against socialism at the town meetings in the news.

The full Moon in Pisces emphasizes spirit. And Neptune, as in the Neptune-Jupiter-Chiron group mentioned above rules this Piscean Moon.

For the short term and this full Moon, a fairly tumultuous full Moon event looks likely, with continued lively debate between proponents of health care in the U.S. and unhappy Republicans.

The U.S.

At this Moon event the full Moon is in the 4th House, conjunct natal Ceres; and the Sun is still in the 10th house, conjunct natal Pallas Athena. Thus we have the same 4th house to 10th house reciprocal pattern, but with a subtle shift in emphasis. The Sun in Virgo emphasizes skill, planning and industry with respect to career; the Moon in Pisces empasizes an emotional attachment to home, hearth and belonging.
