2009 Moon Cycle 4: new Moon in Taurus, full Moon in Scorpio

Here are the Moon charts for April/May:

This fourth Moon cycle contains the Buddha Moon — the full Moon in May, also called the Wesak Moon. In honor of this celebration of the birth, enlightenment and death of Buddha, I carry forward this lecture, titled "Sun-faced Buddha, Moon-faced Buddha", by Shunryu Suzuki-Roshi and reprinted from the April 2000 Berkeley Zen Center Newsletter. I think you'll find it interesting.

At this time we find the Sun and new Moon at 5° Taurus and the full Moon balanced against the Sun on the Taurus/Scorpio axis at about 19° Scorpio.

Follow up:

The new Moon

The Moon is exalted in Taurus, a fixed earth sign. Fixed signs concentrate energy and give it focus, thereby representing definition and structure. The earth element represents matter and symbolizes the principle of stability. Events with Taurean influences are generally practical and mundane; its natives are generally capable and reliable. The sign Taurus gives substance and depth to the Aries impulses. At this time of year gardens are planted. Venus rules Taurus

Most noticeable to me is the almost exact conjunction of Venus and Mars in Aries. This conjunction is in oriental appearance (rising or crossing the Eastern horizon immediately before the Sun) to the Moon-Sun dyad. Because of this position, Mars-Venus sets the tone for this Moon cycle. Mars united with Venus speaks of sexual duality, as in male-female principles, and also of romantic/sexual relationships. Jealousy is indicated and a desire, if not the will, for a long-lasting relationship.

Since the Moon's North/South nodes are square the Moon, there may be difficulty in garnering cooperation from people or groups for personal aims and purposes.

Pluto in Capricorn and Ceres, just entering Virgo, form a grand trine with the Sun-Moon combo in earth signs, focusing attention on personal goals and finding practical means of attaining them.

The U.S.

In the U.S. chart Sun-Moon are in the sixth house conjunct the Descendant. The sixth house pertains to servants of the country and all involuntary services rendered by the people. Yet, being conjunt the Descendant and, by extension, moving into the seventh, these matters are fading and "conditions, circumstances and events affecting [the country's] social evolution" (Nicolas Devore, Encyclopedia of Astrology) are coming to the fore.

The Sun-Moon combo is sextile Natal Jupiter and Venus, both in Cancer and the eighth house. This speaks of an opportunity to apply lessons learned from the housing and banking failures toward developing a philosophy for living and coping with life's situations.

The full Moon

At this full Moon the sun is in Taurus, the Moon in Scorpio. The Taurus/Scorpio axis speaks of supply and demand, something currently on most everyone's mind. The Moon's emotions are intense in Scorpio with strong likes/dislikes.

The full Moon is square Jupiter in Aquarius. When including the Sun, this square becomes a T-square. T-squares can be difficult, but they also offer the opportunity to hammer out differences and build better.

Jupiter is conjunct Chiron and Neptune. About the Neptune-Chiron conjunct, which is very close to exact, Lynn Hayes in her column "Astrological Musings" states:

When Chiron and Neptune are working together, they combine to assist with the work of the soul. The body, the mind, and the ego are all most interested in living a life well-grounded in the material world that offers the maximum of pleasure and the minimum of pain. The soul does not pursue pleasure and avoid pain; instead, there is an embrace of experiences that will assist us at the deepest level to completely learn the lessons that are presented to us so that we can release the past and move forward with greater wisdom.

Chiron facilitates this aspect of soul work by uncovering any wounded places that have been left unresolved so that we can be freed of the blocked energy that our unreleased wounds hold within the body/mind/spirit system. Neptune assists by reminding us that there is a world of experience that lies beyond the boundaries of the material world. Under the influence of Neptune we either open up to experiences of a powerful mystical nature, or else we become confused and deluded as the nature of our personal reality is blurred and we have nothing to replace it with. Neptune bestows creative genius and a spiritual connection to our Divine self as the physical world is transcended, or it can cause us to indulge in escapist and addictive behavior in an effort to escape the prison of our own mind. ...

The quote above is part II of a fine article on the Chiron/Neptune conjunction. Please take the time to follow the link and read the entire article.

With Jupiter conjunct this pair the Neptune-Chiron aspect could be enhanced, that is made more favorable with increased likelihood of a favorable outcome, or it could indicate that the matter will be inflated and given lip-service only.

Another astrologer -- Michael Munkasey in Midpoints: Unleashing the Power of the Planets -- describes the the antithesis (negative effects) of a Jupiter-Neptune conjunction with respect to politics or pusiness thus:

Scandals about growth, values, or belief systems; hypocrisy growing as a form of internal policy; a legal system where ethics and morals are based upon favors and payoffs; degradation in systems of justice.

In other words this aspect may be referring to the remnants of the previous U.S. administration. Maybe not.

The U.S.

In the U.S. chart the Moon is in the 1st house, the Sun in the 7th. This axis speaks of personal interests and matters vs. partnerships and shared interests. The Moon is square the Midheaven and its own natal position (25° Aquarius).

Again I quote Munkasey, this time the thesis of the Moon-Midheaven aspect as expressed in politics or business:

The involvement of the common people with politics; women and their movements having influence on policies; production of basic materials or commodities raised as an issue of emotional concern.

Sun conjunct natal Vesta in the 7th house speaks of dedication to a partnership or living arrangement and the occasional need to take a break, take time for oneself. On a national level it speaks of the need to be dedicated to fairness in international relations, yet protect one's own interests.

Changes in Moon's characteristics, new to full

With so many factors at play, is there such a thing as a true Aquarian?

Thank you for your comment, green earthling --

There is an archetype called Aquarian; when you read a description of the sign that's it. Note that each person observing or describing it sees something different or different facets are emphasized. This is true of all symbols.

When one starts interpreting a chart, factors get mixed together more and all is interconnected.

For these reasons, astrology will never be a hard science, always an art. In astrology we're dealing with meanings. Each of us wants to have meaning to enrich his/her life; but to each what matters (therefore has meaning) is different.

What a wonderful world we live in. No?

Marge

BTW, your site (http://godyesorno.com) is very interesting and well-designed.
