New Moon @ 06° Libra 33′

Here are two charts for the new Moon on 29 September 2008, 08:13 AM (GMT) and a calendar with astrological annotation for October.

What other astrologers have to say...

Jeff Jawer at stariq.com in his New Moon Report:

No sign is a better bridge than Libra, which understands the duality of life upon which we are balanced. Its openness to conflicting points of view is an ideal intermediary between what once was and what will be. Relationships may shift as they are weighed at the Equinox, one of the four major turning points of the year. Diplomatic Libra, though, seeks harmony, so even if truth shakes a partnership, dialogue can lead away from battle and toward accommodation.

Neith at realAstrologers.com says about this new Moon:

This is the first New Moon following the autumnal equinox and is the doorway to the period leading up the winter solstice, which marks the end of one solar year and the beginning of the new one.

Any New Moon in Libra always draws attention to our one-on-one relationships, matters of equity and justice, making informed decisions, and focusing attention on the "other" rather than ourselves. Libra is the halfway point of the astrological year and a good time to look at what has happened since the New Moon in Aries six months ago. With five planets in air signs in this chart, the intellectual approach to problem-solving is favored.

Since Mercury in Libra is retrograde on the New Moon, reviewing old business is a far better option than attempting to start something new, even though Mars is still conjunct Mercury, encouraging us to take action. Perhaps a better use of this cardinal energy is to sit down with our partners and take a look at what works and what doesn't. The trine from Mercury in Libra to Neptune in Aquarius is still in effect and very helpful for taking the high road and applying a generous dose of compassion and empathy.

Venus, Libra's ruler, has recently moved into Scorpio and is closely semi-sextile the Sun-Moon conjunction, strengthening the bond between them. While Libra really does prefer to stay in the mental realms, Venus in Scorpio can be very insistent about the need to look deeper and examine our motives and the "whys" behind our obsessive behaviors. What do we need to do for emotional housecleaning? Do our relationships truly benefit both parties, or would separation be the best course? These are the type of questions to ask now.

In addition, an inconjunct from Uranus in Pisces to Mercury in Libra still is resonating in the atmosphere. Uranus can be very persistent in reminding us of the need to be true to our authentic selves, and this inconjunct to Mercury can be the mosquito in our gardens flying around our heads bugging us to pay attention to ensure our own needs are being met.

The sextile from Mars in Libra to Pluto in Sagittarius will be exact on October 1. We have a window of opportunity here supporting our efforts to clear out the debris in our lives generated by the T-square with Pluto on the last Full Moon. Of course, we can always ignore this and go on as we have, but keep in mind that sooner or later, Pluto will demand his due.

The grand trine with Jupiter in Capricorn, Saturn in Virgo, and Vesta in Taurus is once more in effect. This pattern was also in the sky during the eclipse on August 16, but Venus and Mercury were in Virgo conjoining Saturn then adding their bit. This is the bare bones version but the message of healing through taking a practical, grounded approach is still there. Because we are working with the flowing energy of the trine, to get the most out of this pattern, we must consciously choose to do so.

It would be well worth your time to take a look at this site. These two ladies have a lot of cool stuff to say.

My take..
   ..on the new Moon

There is a bucket pattern containing Saturn in Virgo, Venus in Scorpio, Jupiter in Capricorn and Uranus in Pisces in the second hemisphere signs. These signs mark the time of year after the harvest in Virgo, when the Sun crosses into Libra and the days become longer. At this time of year the length of days go from equally day and night (the fall Equionox) to short (the winter solstice) to equally day qand night (the spring equinox). During this time of year our attention moves to internal processes and away from the more simple pleasures of summer. While the first hemisphere is concerned with physical growth and individual activity, the second hemisphere is concerned with spiritual growth and social activity.

With respect to the bucket pattern, Marc Edmund Jones in Guide to Horoscope Interpretation describes it thus --

The occupied segment of the bowl horoscope reveals the activity and organization of the self, since planets are significant according to their place by sign and house, and the unoccupied segment becomes a challenge to existence, or the need and emptiness to which the native must direct his attention. The outstanding characteristic of the bowl temperament is its marked sense of what is self-contained in contrast with what the self cannot hold, and this takes an everyday form in advocacy of some cause, the furtherance of a mission, an introspective concern over the purpose of experience. The bowl native always has something to give to his fellows, whether literally or psychologically, whether constructively or vindictively, because his orientation to the world arises from division; that is, frustration and uncertainty. The leading planet ... gives a point of application, and shows where and how the native seeks to carry out his mission or gain his everyday justification for existence.

Because this chart is NOT for an individual but for an event, the event has something to give us, either literally or psychologically, depending on how each of us relates to it.

The leading planet in this configuration is Saturn in Virgo. In Virgo the discipline of Saturn meets the need-for-perfection of Virgo. What results can be efforts bogged down in a pursuit of correctness or a surprisingly well-thought-out and effective product. Timing is important and remembering to step back and take a breather when you feel the walls closing in.

..on the new Moon as it relates to the U.S. natal chart

This new Moon takes places in the U.S.'s eleventh house, the home of friends, community, group activities and organizations, goals and wishes, earned income, and networking. The Sun-Moon combo occupying Libra indicates an emphasis on relationships, shared property, contracts and justice.

In the house next door -- the 12th -- there is a stellium with Mercury, Mars, the Part of Fortune and Venus all under on roof. Mars and Mercury are square natal Pluto in Capricorn. Planets in the 12th speak of limitation, self-undoing, and self-sacrifice, but also initiation and ultimate understanding. Also indicated are work done in private and behind the scenes, meditation and inner development.
