New Moon @ 09° Leo 32′

Here is the August calendar with astrological notation and two charts for the new Moon on 1 August 2008, 10:13:30 AM (GMT).

What other astrologers have to say...
Taking a look at what my preferred astrologers have to say about this new Moon:

Jeff Jawer at stariq.com in his New Moon Report:

This New Moon in courageous Leo plants seeds of inspiration in a child's garden of creativity and play. Yet it is also a Solar Eclipse that indicates a need for weeding out unproductive dreams, romantic fantasies and self-aggrandizing illusions in order to make the soil fertile for new growth. Give generously and allow others to give to you in return because it is this equal exchange that opens hearts and allows each of us to shine brightly.

Lisa Dale Miller at astroWisdom.com says about the eclipse and new Moon:

Astrologically, this eclipse is a metaphor for the personal ego at its most selfish, greedy and narcissistic, overshadowing the critical needs of the many. This is a New Moon to look deeply at the nature of desire and how it feeds the most destructive aspects of human life. So before we launch into the most negative aspects of Leo, let's first relish in the positive.

Leo carries an inner vision sourced in a deep desire to powerfully express personal creativity. More than any other sign, Leo rules creative actualization of the self; the ego. Ego is the self, knowing and creatively actualizing itself, in all its complexity and beauty -- yes, complexity and beauty. The more we know about who we are the more complex our view of self becomes and consequently we begin to become more adept at skillfully dealing with a wider rage of experience. This is what I call creative mindfulness: opening awareness to a deeper, yet broader experience of the ramifications of action.

This New Moon is conjunct Sun/Mercury/Venus/South Node in Leo. So almost all of the personal planets rest in the sign that rules personal power. In our world wielding personal power has meant a kind of power-over, which expresses itself in everything from caring only about personal gain and exerting excessive influence over others, to war mongering, exploitation and land grabbing. With Mars and Saturn in Virgo, the healer/humanitarian, this is the New Moon to redefine personal power as a means to engender communal empowerment, coexistence and upliftment; in other words, true leadership. Leo's most evolved form is the inspirational, full-hearted teacher/leader. ...

About the concurrent solar eclipse, member Gabby posted the following comment at tribe --

The Solar Eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth line up in such a way that the Moon obscures the Sun from the Earth. This can only occur during a New Moon phase.. The human response to the Solar Eclipse is both physical and psychological. It is not uncommon for the individual to develop an awareness during the Eclipses. Solar Eclipses focus the spotlight onto the Self. Perhaps because we live within a social realm, we tend to forget the importance of the "self" prior to the development of relationships. Quite often, people want to know, "How can I get him/her to like me?" The more valid question is, "Do I like who I am?" A Solar Eclipse can also indicate the beginning of a new phase in one's life.

The Solar Eclipse can help you to regroup and focus, for a while, on an area in your life that may need extra attention or change. While your attention is focused on a particular area of your life, it is almost like a "self-help" tool that can help develop the strengths of your personality. The Eclipse may inspire, motivate or pressure you, depending on the nature of your needs during the transit. ...

My take..
   ..on the new Moon

There are only two patterns showing during this lunation:

  • The Moon-Sun-Mercury-South Node-Venus stellium in Leo described by Ms. Miller above.
  • A T-wedge formed by Mars in Virgo opposing by Uranus in Pisces with Jupiter in Capricorn widely sextile Uranus, trine Mars; and retrograde Pluto in Sagittarius square Uranus, out-of-orb on a square to Mars. The figure resembles a square of paper unevenly folded with Mars and Uranus along the fold, Jupiter and Pluto at the free corners.

Aspects between Mars and Uranus can be explosive, but oppositions speak of awareness and seesawing. Here there's a drive to be analytical and to conform on one hand and to be completely rebellious on the other. Crowding into this (probably internal) dialogue is a seething anger -- why me?, why now? -- and a suppression of wealth or resources that will prove beneficial in the end.

..on the new Moon as it relates to the U.S. natal chart

Transiting Mars in the figure described above is conjunct the U.S.'s natal Neptune in Virgo, throwing the balance of the figure toward less analysis, more wishful thinking. Natal Neptune is posited in the 11th house, which is the field of friends, community, hopes and wishes, and humanitarian activities.

The Moon-Sun-Mercury-South Node-Venus stellium groups around the Midheaven, which emphasizes the responsibility of each of us to grow and mature as individuals and to use the talents we have and skills we develop to contribute to the greater good, in addition to meeting our own needs.
