New Moon @ 17° Pisces 31′

Here are two charts for the new Moon on 7 March 2008, 5:15 PM (GMT).

What the real astrologers have to say...
Taking a look at what other astrologers have to say about this new Moon:

Jeff Jawer at stariq.com in his new Moon report:

The New Moon in Pisces is a time to feed your dreams, opening your mind and heart to a more creative and compassionate life. Inventive Uranus joins this lunation to hasten the pace of change. Things may feel more hectic and unpredictable now, spurring desires to break from routine and discover alternative ways of living. Generous Jupiter's supportive sextile to Uranus from constructive Capricorn provides a practical framework that helps turn chaos into a new and more invigorating system.

Lisa Dale Miller at astrowisdom posts about this new Moon:

This is the New Moon to practice compassion and selflessness by radiating peace and calm through prayer and meditation. Pisces acknowledges our essential connectedness and realizes it through the practice of unconditional love and unwavering compassion. To help you practice, feel free to download my metta (lovingkindness) meditation recordings. Here is the link: www.lisadalemiller.com/metta.htm ...

The Piscean journey is a homeward bound one; an evolutionary ending of sorts. Ultimately, Pisceans are embodied in order to embrace the letting go of self-identification through learning to love unconditionally. Those who can commit their lives to working for the upliftment of all other souls are our everyday Bodhisattvas. Pisces is Bodhisattva consciousness embodied in self-sacrifice. Pisces' bottom line is to learn to love unconditionally, and to work for the collective enlightenment of all sentient beings; no matter how hard it may be or how long it may take. This is the New Moon to commit to growing up and out of selfishness and hatred. Transcendence comes in many forms, but the first step is accepting personal responsibility for the condition of your life and the lives of all other sentient beings.

Robert Ayres at Astrological Alchemy says about the full Moon:

The New Moon this month falls is Pisces on March 7. The uniting of the Sun and Moon in the last sign of the zodiac marks the final chapter of the solar year. This New Moon is seeding intention for the last month of the winter season which contains the energy of completion.

Pisces embodies the archetype of The Mystic with the ability to see beyond the physical veil into the higher spiritual worlds. It is very important now that we are able to validate, through direct experience, the omnipresence of the living spirit permeating all of physical existence. The Mystic is inner-oriented because of the knowledge that the outer is based on the inner. The opportunity to align one's consciousness with the universal light, the ground of Being, is available now. Cross the threshold between worlds through meditation, music, dance or poetry which are all under the rulership of Pisces. Open the inner doors to expanded awareness and let the light of higher consciousness shine through into your life.

Uranus is conjunct the New Moon, adding a special energy of enlightened expansion. Uranus the Awakener is the planet of cosmic consciousness and creates the opportunity to see things in a new light. It involves an expansion of heart and mind that is very uplifting. It also contains humanitarian impulses. These three planets are sextile to Jupiter, the planet of wisdom, providing a very positive influence. In addition, a very beneficial configuration of a mystic rectangle is formed by another six planets. The only real negative is a Mars/Pluto opposition which will most likely manifest as ongoing battles politically, economically, and militarily.

My take..
   On the new Moon

When I look at this chart, I see an amazing grouping of 14 astrological entities, including asteroids, in the span of the chart from the 4th to 7th houses. While this chart was drawn for Greenwich, England, so that house placements probably don't apply to most of you, there is something to be said for the reality of perception and the power of mind.

At the moment you perceive this chart, it becomes a reality in your consciousness. If a 1000 people perceive it, does that reality become larger and/or stronger?

  • Ten of the astrological entities occupy the 2nd quadrant, the houses of which deal with an individual's focus on outward development, the moving out from oneself to connect with the world through home and family, creative self-expression, and service/servitude. I'm referring to the occupants of this quadrant as 'entities' because one is the vertex and one is the Moon's North Node.
  • Four lights/planets, including the Sun & Moon, occupy the 7th house, which indicates marriage & partnership. One crosses the descendant to enter the 7th, and it is here that the soul begins to shine and the importance of the physical body recedes. In the words of Patrizia Norelli-Bachelet --

    It is the sign of Union, or Yoga, the Cosmic Sunset and the beginning of the soul's emergence into Light. As yet the rays of the Sun are mellow, indirect and subdued, but they are cast onto Creation and illumine the inherent possibilities hidden until now.

  • Vesta, because it crosses the eastern horizon immediately before the Sun/Moon dyad, is the practical director of this chart. This suggests this chart, therefore this Moon event is about sacrificing personality for beliefs. Also suggested is that restrictions and frustrations on the job will eventually be overcome.

   On the new Moon as it relates to the U.S. natal chart

Here the Sun/Moon dyad is conjuncting the cusp of the 5th house and in opposition to natal Neptune in Virgo. Since Neptune rules Pisces, this opposition is not so much about awareness of an opposing point of view as an awareness of being under the thumb of something larger than oneself. A sense of frustration associated with children, their attitudes and conditions, circumstances affecting minors, the public school system is indicated. Include in this list (from Devore's Encyclopedia of Astrology:

  • amusements and amusement places, theaters, concerts, sporting events;
  • public speculations and investments;
  • the inclination of the people to play or express emotion;
  • public happiness and sorrow;
  • high society and the upper classes;
  • ambassadors, senators, and government representatives;
  • formal social functions and official ceremonies;
  • similar activities not engaged in for the specific purpose of making money.
