What the real astrologers have to say...
Taking a look at what other astrologers have to say about this full Moon:
Jeff Jawer at stariq.com in his full Moon report:
This Full Moon is a Total Lunar Eclipse that may set the stage for much that follows in 2008. The opposition of the Sun in imaginative Pisces and the Moon in pragmatic Virgo is an annual event that contrasts the ideal with the real. Serious Saturn's conjunction with the Moon weighs heavily in favor of bringing dreams down to earth. However, a Lunar Eclipse suggests that something's got to go: an old habit or frustrating job may be ripe for change. Potent Pluto in ambitious Capricorn aligns in a supportive trine to Saturn and the Moon, empowering us with the ability to eliminate waste and concentrate our efforts where they will be most effective.
Lisa Dale Miller at astrowisdom posts about this new Moon:
This is the Full Moon of healing and service. Virgo understands that disease manifests itself in societies as well as in individuals. There is so much dis-ease in our world and we all need to awaken to our role as healers. This is especially true on this Full Moon in Virgo, with a total lunar eclipse. The soulful, peacemaking Pisces Sun opposes the scientific, nature-based healing Virgo Moon. What a perfect night to release your New Moon in Aquarius intentions for radical change (especially if they revolve around health issues) and celebrate the hard work you have done over the last two weeks toward these goals. ...
Eclipses co-mingle the energies of Moon and Sun, often creating disturbing or intensified effects. The Pisces Sun rules a spectrum of experience ranging from pure transcendence, selflessness, unconditional love, to addiction, co-dependency, denial and fantasy. These energies literally cover and hide the energy of the practical, analytical Virgo Moon; veiling this Moon's clarity and grounded reality-based thinking.
On this Full Moon, the Sun in Pisces opposes the Moon/Saturn conjunction in Virgo. This opposition enlivens the integration of healing through transcendence and attending to bodily health. But it may also bring up more negative feelings of inertia/limitation due to the perfectionism of Virgo and the negations/denials of Pisces.
Robert Ayres at Astrological Alchemy says about the full Moon:
The Full Moon falls in Virgo 1 degree and the keyword for this decanate is Achievement. The achievement that is referred to here is the result of translating our thoughts and ideas into action, which results in achievement. The ideas that have been bouncing around in our minds for awhile need to be put into action now.
The Moon is conjunct Saturn and the Dragon's Tail, which means that we are being tested to have the courage to overcome stuckness, laziness, and fear that hold us back from achieving what is desired. The primary negative aspect is the opposition of the Moon stellium with the Sun stellium of Sun, Neptune, and Dragon's Head. On the positive side, the planetary configuration at Full Moon forms a mystic rectangle of trines and sextiles. This provides significant support for self-transformation through action.
These are fundamentally positive lunations, so be sure to take advantage of the cosmic opportunities presented now. Remember, if fear confronts you, it can be overcome through action. Enjoy!
My take..
On the full Moon
Mercury, the ruler of Virgo, is turning direct. Interesting that it's occurring at the time of the full Moon. Generally, delays or negative news should clear up now. To help with understanding and anticipating retrogrades in 2008 here is a page of stations found at Cafe Astrology.
- It looks like there are four, count them, 4 mystic rectangles being formed by planetary configurations between the Sun and Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto, Mars & Neptune; but the balance that is the essence of this configuration is thrown off by Mars and Neptune being in air signs. If Juno in Sagittarius and Transpluto in Leo are included, a full mystic rectangle is formed in air/fire signs (Mars-Juno, Transpluto-Neptune). But how to read it, since Transpluto is hypothetical and doesn't even have a name yet, is the question of the day.
Vesta, the asteroid, is nearly exactly conjunct the Sun during this moon event. Normally I don't look at the asteroids (Ceres, Pallas Athena, Juno and Vesta) because they're new to the astrological pantheon and relatively minor celestial bodies, that is, not planets or lights. But they are clearly related to Virgo, and this full Moon occurs in Virgo. The keywords for Vesta are rituals - preserving -- think of the Roman Vestal virgins. Emma Belle Donath in Asteroids in the Birth Chart says of Vesta:
Vesta represents fire tamed and used for man's benefit. This Goddess of the Hearth was one of the oldest deities worshiped by man because of his respect for fire. Meals began and ended with an offering to Vesta. When members of the family left their parental homes they were given a flame of fire for their new dwellings. The fire was never allowed to go out and a very responsible member of the family was appointed to tend the fire and keep it burning. This led to the perpetual flame on the altar in places of worship.
Vesta conjunct the Sun in Pisces in opposition to the Moon suggests a conscious sacrifice, possibly in terms of denying oneself a short-term satisfaction, perhaps emotional, in order to attain a long-term goal.
On the full Moon as it relates to the U.S. natal chart
Another asteroid, Pallas Athena, is closely conjunct the U.S.'s natal Moon. Pallas' keywords are patterns - protecting. At this time the North Node is applying to a conjunct with the natal Moon and Pallas in Aquarius. Suggested here are the good timing and ability to attract the correct people to listen to your ideas or insights; meeting and working with others who have similar inclinations or feelings; creativity and inventiveness as a primary purpose in life.
Chiron, a planetoid in the outer solar system, is currently conjuncting the point at which February's new Moon occurred. In the span between Chiron and the Sun are Neptune, North Node and Pallas Athena. The current collection of contenders for the presidential nomination comes to mind; also Americans' aptitude for innovation and appreciation of skill and nobleness of spirit. At least in the classic movies.
For a little background on Chiron here is a quote from Martin Lass' Astrology and Healing Pages:
Chiron's issues and affairs concern health and disease and their relationship to our spiritual journey through life. Chiron says that health and disease, dysfunction and disorder, are our teachers. They are homing beacons towards our Return to Spirit, towards greater wholeness, consciousness, Truth and Love.
Orthodox medicine and psychology approach dysfunction from the point of view of symptoms and their root causes. Chiron calls the root cause, the Wound. Orthodoxy seeks to fix, correct, cure, or get rid of our Wounds. Chiron says that there is nothing to fix, correct, cure or get rid of. Chiron says that the Wound contains a Gift and that the Healing journey is the process of discovering that Gift. The Wound is Healed when the Gift is embraced.
