New Moon @ 17° Libra 30′
Here is a chart for the new Moon on Thursday, 11 October 2007, 5:01 AM (GMT).
Lisa Dale Miller at Astrowisdom.com reminds (and admonishes) us
Because Libra rules all forms of relating, it's worth beginning with the most important of all human relationships: our stewardship of this planet. Yes, this New Moon is the precursor to the Full Moon in Taurus, the celebration of our Earth Mother. So as the Moon waxes to fullness over these two weeks, start your day with a prayer of gratitude for the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the ground upon which we live, sleep, and work. After the prayer, recommit to being part of the solution to global warming by creating an action you can do that day to make your commitment a reality.
Once again, this year we all need to do very serious ritual work on this New Moon in Libra, the ruler of justice, negotiation, deep-listening, love, and caring for "the other." The expectation that violence is a part of life has become so widespread and unfortunately, so completely nurtured in our young through violent video games, gangsta rap, and TV. It's almost as if humans are giving permission to a belief system which goes something like this: If you don't like someone, or something they believe, well, just get rid of them. You think I am exaggerating? We now have countless incidents in schools and colleges where a gun-toting student has rampaged through classrooms or dorms: unfortunately, today there is news of yet another school shooting by a 14 year old. And any of you who live in major cities know that gang violence is continuing to plague our youth.
Jeffrey Kishner at Lunar Tunes Astrology in his own inimitable way tells us about this new Moon:
Libra is ruled by Venus, and during this New Moon in Libra, Venus is in Virgo. Granted, the goddess of love does not feel blissful in the sign of her fall. She tends to feel self-critical (as well as other-critical!), harping on her own or her partner's flaws to help improve efficiency and create a more perfect marriage. And although she approaches lovemaking as skill-set to hone, at least she cares enough to be attentive in bed.
Unfortunately, Venus is conjunct strict Saturn during the New Moon, and She completely merges with Him on Sunday, October 14. As if being in Virgo were not enough of a challenge, she's now being whipped into shape by the Taskmaster, who demands that she shed pounds in preparation for her Long Marriage to the God of Responsibility and Commitment. Which is not such a bad thing, but boy, the hoops He makes Her jump through! It is a grueling workout, and sometimes all Venus wants to do is throw in the towel and stay an Old Maid.
Jeff Jawer at stariq.com tells us in his New Moon Report:
The New Moon in Libra invites a fresh look at relationships. Putting an existing partnership back on track or opening the door to new connections is a natural expression of the Sun and Moon's union in this couple-oriented sign. An intuitive trine to the New Moon from spiritual Neptune adds imagination and forgiveness to smooth the road to more harmonious alliances, while an uplifting sextile from optimistic Jupiter expands the field of possibilities for co-operative ventures.
What attracts my attention, as usual, is Mars. (Can you tell I'm an Aries? :) As Venus, ruler of Libra, approaches a conjunct with Saturn, she also approaches a sextile with Mars in Cancer. To me this suggests the beginning of a period of attraction to more serious pursuits related to home and practical interests. Mercury in Scorpio is sextile, suggesting an opportunity to marry intellect with action.
Looking at the U.S. natal chart, the transiting Sun-Moon combo is conjunct natal Saturn. Saturn is in the 11th house, square the U.S. natal Sun, which is in Cancer/9th house. The combination of the 9th and 11th house indicates higher levels of consciousness, where Saturn adds concreteness and the Sun lends its power. That they are square shows construction with its attendant sawing, measuring, positioning and hammering.
While the new Moon event is conjunct Saturn, it actually occurs within the 12th house. In mundane astrology the 12th house encompasses:
- correctional institutions
- labor disturbances
- ill health and epidemics
- hospitals and charitable institutions
- conditions adverse to the public welfare
- the nation's secret enemies in war and peace
- spies and confidential agents of foreign countries
- crimes and criminals
- the personal journeyings and writings of those in power in the government
- the nation's secret societies, both political and religious
