New Moon @ 28° Pisces 07′

Here is a chart for this new Moon (19 March 2007, 2:33A GMT). It was concurrent with a solar eclipse.

Lisa Dale Miller at Astrowisdom speaks out:

Another New Moon in Pisces; another year mired in the ignorance of war spurred on by the illusion of separation. So once again I find it necessary to speak these deeply real and paradoxically intertwined truths: We are all connected and there is no security; for all things are uncertain. We are nothing and everything; full and empty. It is time we relinquish hatred, fear and greed, and start living together in love and peace. Retrograde Saturn (traditional systems, old thinking) in Leo (power, glory, personal/nationalistic grandiosity) is being pressured so intensely by Chiron (the healer) Mars (the warrior) and Neptune (the mystic) in Aquarius (awakening into new ideas, liberation, humanitarianism, globalism.) Add to this Mercury (mind), Uranus (awakening), North Node (humanity's evolutionary imperative), Sun (self-motivation) Moon (emotion, intuition) in Pisces, intensely vibrating with waves of unconditional love, total compassion, and absolute oneness. Aquarius extends self-care to the community. If all is not well around me, I am not well. This kind of consciousness builds the bridge to the Piscean extension of self, which includes all other existent life and the cosmos. It is time to break down the walls of separation; walls built with hatred, suspicion, and ignorance....

Jeffrey Kishner at Lunartunes says of the square to Pluto in Sagittarius:

...Pluto drags our transcendent urges into the nether regions of our psyche, confronting us with our devils and demons. One spiritual downfall (to which Pisces is prone) is the propensity to meditate for hours on end, revelling in bliss states to escape one's very real problems here on earth. Altered states of consciousness are not ends in themselves, strivings to experience mental fireworks and out-of-body experiences. Rather, the "work" is useful insofar as it helps us to be more compassionate beings in daily life....

Lynn Hayes in her blog titled Astrological Musings (http://astrodynamics.blogspot.com), the article titled "New Moon Eclipse and the power of Pluto" talks about the recent lunations being near the last degrees the the sign:

...New Moons are times of new beginnings, but as I've mentioned this is the last of a series (eight!) of New Moons in the last degrees of a sign, this time at the end of Pisces. I personally feel that this is symbolic of the closing of a chapter in the human experience. This past year has been tremendously powerful from an astrological perspective: we had six planets in retrograde motion at one time last summer, an opposition from Saturn to Chiron, a grand square that reverberated through the first half of the year and an opposition from Saturn to Neptune closing out the second half of the year along with this series of late degree New Moons. And then we had the reclassification of Pluto and the promotion of Ceres and the new Eris, indicating that something new is ready to enter the human consciousness. ...

Personally, I'm torn between giving Pluto the weight and influence of a planet and re-assessing its importance, since it has been demoted to dwarf planet (not a planet at all, but a trans-Neptunian object, according to the International Astronomical Union). Of course, astrology isn't astronomy.

According to the National Air and Space Museum, Pluto was discovered when:

Several astronomers interpreted irregularities in the orbits of Uranus and Neptune as being caused by a more distant planet. Among these astronomers was the American Percival Lowell who is credited with the successful prediction of the planet's orbit. Lowell also started the search for the planet which was ultimately found in 1930 by his successors at the Lowell Observatory in Arizona.

In my mind Pluto is associated with the Great Depression. In the wikipedia is this:

Astrologically Pluto is called "the great renewer", and is considered to represent the part of a person that destroys in order to renew. A commonly used keyword for Pluto is "transformation". Many more traditional astrologers do not use Pluto as a ruling planet, but do use the planet for interpretation and predictive work, obliquely making reference to projections of influences from higher to lower dimensional spaces.

Pluto is also associated with extreme power and corruption; the discovery of Pluto in 1930 coincided with the rise of fascism and Stalinism in Europe, leading to the Second World War. It also coincided with the Great Depression and the major proliferation of organized crime in the United States. Its entry into Cancer in 1913, the sign in which it was later discovered, coincided with the First World War. It is also associated with nuclear armament, which had its genesis in the research of the 1930's and 40's. Later on, it gave rise to the polarised nuclear stand off of the Cold War, with the mass consumer societies of the United States and other democracies facing the totalitarian state socialism of the USSR. The discovery of Pluto also occurred just after the birth of modern psycho-analysis, when Freud and Jung began to explore the depths of the unconscious. In art, movements like Cubism and Surrealism began to deconstruct the 'normal' view of the world and reassemble it in new and sometimes disturbing ways. In medicine Pluto seems to be associated with regenerative forces in the body involving cell formation and the reproductive system. Pluto is considered by modern astrologers to be co-ruler of the 8th house with Mars.
